In 2013 Richard Mille set the world record for creating the lightest mechanical timepiece at 18.8 grams when they released the RM27-01. To achieve this lightness the RM27-01 case is made of anthracite polymer which is injected with carbon nanotubes to protect the movement and tourbillon and hold tension. The anthracite color is due to the high concentration of nanotubes and it has a grilamid sapphire crystal. The case is tonneau-shaped with a surface area at 45.98 x 38.9mm and is 10.05mm thick. It has a skeletonized dial made of titanium with aluminum alloy bridges that shows a tourbillon movement. The RM27-01 is powered by the manually wound RM27-01 caliber with a tourbillon movement and a power reserve of 45 hours and stays in suspension to withstand accelerations of over 5,000G. The case is paired with a fabric grey strap that has a velcro closure. It has a water resistance of 30 meters (98 feet). This is a limited 50-piece edition and landmark piece for watch collectors.
